Session Description:
Mesoscale structures, including eddies, fronts and jets, are found throughout the globe’s oceans. They are known to play a significant role in both regional and global ocean circulation. The transport and mixing associated with these structures have a significant impact on the global climate system. However, due to their small size and intermittent nature it is difficult to gather adequate observations in space and time. Consequently, our understanding of these structures is still limited, and their representation in basin to global scale models is poor.
