Session ID#: 12931
Session Description:
Residence times are an important characteristic of hydrological systems, controlling water rock interaction, biogeochemical cycling, contaminant transport and breakthrough, and water supply sustainability. The intrinsic link between residence time and storage volume provides a unique insight into the vulnerability of a hydrological system to droughts and climate change. Integration of residence time analysis and catchment hydrology has led to a better comprehension of catchment processes, both in the unsaturated and saturated zone, and the interaction between vegetation and hydrology. This session invites new applications of multitracer groundwater dating, residence time characterization of surface water by tracer or chemical time series data, modeling of residence time distributions and applications of numerical models. Studies that cross traditional boundaries between ecohydrology, unsaturated zone, surface water, and groundwater hydrology are encouraged.
