Science Video: An Effective Communication Tool for Scientists and the Public Posters

Session Description:
Video is used as both a primary science research tool and a preferred way to communicate science findings to the general public. How do you use video to capture data for scientific research or as a tool to communicate science content? The session will focus on the use of video as a tool to enhance research and as a means to disseminate scientific content and stories for scientists, educators and the general public. Are there specific issues that scientist need to be aware of (or address) when using video for data capture, analysis and interpretation? How has video contributed to science findings or led to additional questions? Is a video image worth “more than a thousand” words? How does a science story get told using video? This session examines science videography and its use in research and communication.

Frontier Scientists, a NSF project titled Science in Alaska: using Multimedia to Support Science Education stressed story but faced audience limitations.
