Session ID#: 13185

Session Description:
Developing science-based knowledge through research to monitor and quantify evolving agro-ecological production practices is needed to reduce risk, build resiliency, and inform agricultural communities especially in the context of a changing climate.  Remote sensing, GIS science, and modeling framework methods help derive accurate, geospatially-driven assessments of agricultural processes and systems on crop-, pasture-, and rangelands. This session will feature recent research methods, tools, and applications in monitoring, mapping, and quantifying changes in agricultural production practices. Topics include sustainability, resilience, risk reduction practices, grower adaptation and mitigation efforts, land use/land cover conversions, phenology, crop diversification, rotation and intensification, urban farming initiatives, food security, and monitoring agricultural area, productivity, and yield.
Primary Convener:  Rick Mueller, USDA Washington DC, Washington, DC, United States
