Session Description:
Anthropogenic carbon emissions are unequivocally warming the Earth, but the resultant temperature increase is not well constrained. Paleoclimate studies may provide for improved predictions of long-term future warming by assessing climate sensitivity during times of global warmth. As these estimates require a precise and accurate history of global temperature and atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2), this session will focus on the development and application of proxies to improve either or both of these reconstructions. We encourage submissions that advance our understanding of global or regional temperature and carbon cycle changes from any point in the Phanerozoic, with an emphasis on methodological improvements in reconstructions, multi-proxy applications or comparisons, evaluation of changes in boundary conditions, or modeling approaches.
