The Mechanics of Slow Earthquakes as Illuminated by Observational, Theoretical, and Laboratory Studies II Posters

Session Description:
Recent studies show that tectonic faults exhibit a broad spectrum of slip behaviors ranging from creep to earthquakes, including several phenomena that were unknown as recently as 15 years ago.  This session will bring together scientists studying the underlying physics that dictate slow slip. Our goal is to foster critical thinking about the mechanics of slow earthquakes as revealed by multidisciplinary observations. Key questions to be addressed include: 1) what processes dictate fault slip rate and rupture propagation velocity during slow slip, 2) what are the relationships between slow and normal earthquakes, and 3) what are the critical issues that need to be resolved to advance our understanding of the physics of slow slip. We welcome contributions from observational-, theoretical-, and laboratory-based research programs.
