Session Description:
The Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT) satellite mission, currently under development by NASA, CNES (France), the CSA (Canada), and the UKSA (UK), is designed to address scientific questions about the nature of submesoscale ocean circulation and surface water hydrology globally.  Using Ka-band radar interferometry, it would for the first time provide simultaneous, high-resolution measurements of water surface elevation and inundation extent over 120 km swaths globally.   In preparation for the mission, new modeling and observation tools have been developed and deployed, producing novel scientific results that both inform mission development and advance oceanographic and hydrologic science more broadly.  For this session, we solicit abstracts that demonstrated advances in science, technology, or applications related to SWOT’s development or the science it aims to address.
