Global Distribution Patterns of Soil Biota and Their Relationships to Earth Biogeochemical Cycling Posters

Session Description:
Despite a wide recognition that soil biota functioning is a key driver of above-belowground carbon and nutrient cycling, the global distribution patterns of soil biota (roots, fungi, bacteria ,and soil animals) and their impacts on Earth biogeochemical cycles are poorly understood. Better connections between field ecologists examining the role of soil biota at ecosystem level, scientists assessing global distributions of soil organisms, and modelers aiming to understand global carbon and nutrient  cycles is the next urgent step to obtain quantitative understanding of Earth biogeochemical cycles. This session will bring together ecologists and modelers active in the research fields of terrestrial biogeochemical cycling and scientists examining global and local patters of soil biodiversity and their relations to ecosystem functioning; aiming to exchange the frontier findings and data, and therewith bridge the gap between these research fields.
