Session Description:
For diverse scientific disciplines to interoperate they must be able to exchange information based on a shared understanding. This shared understanding is typically captured in a knowledge representation framework comprised of standards, methodologies, and tools for the purpose of creating a sharable and formal set of information requirements. In practice, this involves diverse and time-consuming activities including the adoption of standard reference models, the development of information models, ontologies, or controlled vocabularies, knowledge acquisition, metadata and change management, and the establishment of governance. Finally, the resulting knowledge base must positively impact the domain for which is was designed. Topics of interest for this session are lessons learned in all aspects of developing and using knowledge representation frameworks especially those that promote aspects of agile development, including adaptive planning, evolutionary development, early and iterative delivery, continuous improvement, and rapid and flexible response to change.
