Climate Teleconnection from Extratropics to Tropics Posters

Session Description:
Large-scale climate interactions between tropics and extratropics provide a global perspective for understanding and predicting regional climate variability and change. Previous studies on this topic have focused extensively on the impacts of tropical climate variability such as the impacts of El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) on the extratropics. In this session, we will focus on the opposite direction—the impacts of extratropical climate variability on the tropics. We welcome observational, numerical and theoretical studies that investigate the atmospheric, oceanic and/or coupled processes that transport extratropical climate variability signals into the tropics. We also welcome studies that apply those extratropics-to-tropics climate linkages in order to improve either the predictability of tropical climate variability or the simulation of tropical climate—both mean state (e.g., ITCZ, cold tongue) and variability—in climate models.
