Pracademia: Bridging the Gap between Natural Hazards Research and Practice II Posters

Session Description:
Natural hazard research often spans disciplinary spaces, across hazard science, engineering, environmental health, social science, education, humanities, and arts. Professionals, such as emergency managers, land-use planners, communicators, policy makers, educators, health professionals and other groups of practitioners use natural hazards research to inform their decision-making. This nexus where research meets practice is often referred to as “pracademia”. The session explores several questions:

  • How are we (as researchers) currently meeting the needs, constraints, and values of practitioners, like emergency managers, professional communicators, land-use planners, engineers, health professionals and decision-makers?
  • How are we (as practitioners) using research to inform decisions and planning in emergency management, risk and crisis communication, and land-use planning?
  • What case studies show best-practice of research and practice working well together as well as examples of lessons learned?

We invite researchers and practitioners to submit abstracts exploring these spaces.
