Session Description:
Quantitatively linking ecohydrologic processes, at scales from pore size to watersheds, is a grand challenge still facing the scientific community. By advancing our understanding of hydrological, biogeochemical, and ecological interactions it becomes possible to predict the impacts of human and natural activities altering land use/land cover on water quality, water quantity and the abundance of arable lands. Geophysics offers a platform to spatially elucidate subsurface plant-soil-water interactions that is currently unrivaled by other methods. In recent years, geophysical techniques have been increasingly exploited for ecohydrological research ranging from root-zone dynamics to groundwater-surface water interactions. The goal of this proposed session is to bring together a diverse group of scientists (hydrologists, soil scientists, ecologists, and geophysicists) to discuss the practical challenges of effective characterization and monitoring of ecohydrological processes.
