Session Description:
Environmental change is considered an important driver for human evolution and dispersal as well as for key cultural and technological innovations. The evaluation of the impact that climatic shifts on different timescales might have had on the living conditions of prehistoric humans is one of the cornerstones in current research, but crucially depends on reliable and continuous paleo-environmental data from the vicinity of paleo-anthropological and archaeological sites. The conveners encourage interdisciplinary teams to submit abstracts on their project’s research that contributes to an enhanced understanding of these human-climate interactions by interpreting and linking new findings from outcrop geology, lacustrine, and marine sediments. We hope this session will appeal to a broad audience by highlighting the latest research on paleo-environmental reconstructions in the vicinity of key records of human evolution, showcasing a wide variety of analytical methods, and encouraging collaboration between research groups.
