Fifteen Years of Geobiology: The Significant Highlights and the Future I Posters

Session Description:
Fifteen years have passed since the inception of the broad topic of Geobiology as a primary scientific field of investigation, with the emergent realization that geochemistry, geology, paleontology, and molecular/micro/macrobiology, are inextricably linked when approaching the co-evolution of Earth and life.  Educationally, more than 225 students have passed through the International Geobiology Course, an intense summer training program that has been instrumental to the creation of the field.  With this session, we will feature the most transformative geobiologic research that has changed the way we view the world, including but not limited to our understanding of microbe-mineral interactions (modern and ancient), biogeochemical cycling through time, and how the genomic and palegenomic revolution has impacted the field of geobiolgy.  The future of this field is bright with both talent and technology and the thorough examination of its foundation will only make it more impactful.
