Session Description:
This session welcomes scientific investigation of the surface geology, surface composition, interior properties, origin, and evolution of Ceres and Vesta. Ceres and Vesta, the two most massive members of the asteroid belt, have evolved to very different present day states, an observation that must be accounted for in our understanding of solar system evolution. While Dawn observations have given us a greater understanding of these two bodies, their place in the solar system, and the origin and evolution of the solar system as a whole, many questions remain unanswered, and these observations raise additional new questions. The aim of this session is to include reports of analyses based on data returned from the Dawn spacecraft, along with modeling studies, astronomical observations, meteorite analyses, and analog studies. In addition, we welcome comparative studies of the dwarf planets Ceres and Pluto.
