Industry Perspectives on Natural Hazards and Disaser Science: Research Needs  and Opportunities

Session Description:
A panel discussion is proposed to discuss what industry perceives as the key issues and opportunities related to natural hazards and data science. We propose to assemble a panel from the insurance, consulting, data science, emergency management,  and public sector agencies that cover a broad spectrum of technical and applied activity related to natural hazards and disasters to provide context as to the current challenges they face. The moderator will facilitate the discussion towards an identification of research needs and challenges, and possible academic and industry engagement to develop new initiatives. We anticipate two panels, and the development of a summary that will be published in EOS.
