Session ID#: 13625
Session Description:
Complex global and regional modeling systems are important tools to help government and environmental managers mitigate air pollution, which has reached adverse levels in different parts of Asia. The session will review the modeling systems that are being developed to investigate the processes that lead to the formation of secondary pollutants, and to forecast extreme episodes occurring increasingly frequently, specifically during wintertime. Topics to be considered are regional emission inventories of primary pollutants, chemical data assimilation and inverse modeling used to constrain surface emissions, regional numerical forecast of air quality, specifically in urban environments, model evaluation, the use of surface measurements and space observations in support of air quality studies, the prospect to develop and disseminate operational forecasts of "chemical weather" .
