Session Description:
Inverse problems are routinely used to derive geophysical variables from satellite observations or assimilate satellite observations into NWP models. This session is devoted to assimilation of satellite and GPS-RO observations into NWP models; development, validation, and inter-comparison of reanalysis products; new advanced statistical and mathematical methods for data assimilation; as well as Observing System Simulation Experiments (OSSE) including simulation of realistic observations, validation of Nature Runs, and data assimilation experiments using simulated observations.
