Session Description:
Glacial hydrological processes profoundly affect the dynamics, mass balance and geomorphological impact of glaciers and ice sheets. The hydrologic systems which store and transport meltwater take many forms including firn aquifers, supraglacial lakes and streams, moulins and crevasses, and the subglacial drainage system. These and other components, along with the ways in which they are coupled, comprise a complex glacial hydrologic system. Constraining the spatiotemporal variability in all components of the system will continue to improve our ability to predict how glacial systems are responding to changing climate. Therefore, this session seeks to explore the role of meltwater on, in and under glaciers and ice sheets, providing an improved understanding of how hydrology can impact the behavior of glaciers and ice sheets in the past, present and future. We invite contributions from all aspects and scales of glacial hydrology and particularly welcome studies which integrate a range of methodologies.
