Session Description:
The transportation sector, including aviation, shipping, and ground transport, currently accounts for approximately 25% of CO2 emissions in the US and 14% globally. Much research has focused on measuring and reducing these emissions, but less focus has been placed on the impacts of climate change on transportation infrastructure and operations despite the significant vulnerabilities that the industry may face. An understanding of these risks is important to guide adaptation and to highlight the importance of climate change mitigation in reducing economic damage. This session welcomes climate impact-related submissions across all transportation sectors, and submissions related to less studied aspects, such as impacts of extreme climate events on aviation and shipping, are especially encouraged. Economic analyses are welcomed as well. However a common theme to all submissions should be a strong link to specific climate hazards, as well as how their frequency, intensity, and duration may change in the future.
