Session Description:
Pollutants such as ozone and aerosols substantially impact measures of ecosystem health, including crop yields, biodiversity, and carbon uptake. In turn, changes in ecosystem health and biodiversity lead to changes in biogenic emissions, which influence ozone and aerosol formation.  This session will highlight recent advances in our understanding of the two-way interactions between air quality and ecosystems, via measurements (remote and in-situ) and models. We invite contributions on topics including but not limited to:

  • Advances in measurement and modeling of near-surface ozone, reactive nitrogen and its components, biogenic VOCs, and aerosols and their relationship to ecosystem health on a range of scales
  • Advances in measurements and modeling of plant stress indicators, such as solar-induced fluorescence and evapotranspiration, and their use in understanding properties such as stomatal conductance and crop yield
  • Estimation of biogenic emissions
  • Impacts of air quality on food security and carbon uptake
