Socioeconomic Impact Analysis for Earth Observation Science Posters

Session Description:
Recent emphasis on the need to justify investments in Earth Observation research has lead to an interest in developing socioeconomic impact assessments and analysis methods. These methods, such as the recent publication of a "primer" for Earth Observation and wildfire applications, are becoming more common place, making an AGU session focusing on these methods, and addressing the underlying situation, both timely and topical. This session will include 1) invited overviews from NASA and the ESA on socioeconomic analysis and the context in which these approaches are being encouraged, 2) case studies from the open call for papers, and 3) a final open forum period focused on implementing sound practices and evaluation of socioeconomic impact as a measure of successful research transitioning to operations / applications.  Topics to be considered will include implications from socioeconomic analysis for the 2017 National Academy of Sciences (NAS) Decadal Survey for Earth Science as well.
