Session Description:
This session aims to provide an up-to date overview of the initiatives undertaken for studying geophysical responses to spatio-temporal variations of near-surface properties in controlled environment obtained in laboratory meter-scale tank experiments. Such experiments, based on the similarity principle, allow for numerical modeling benchmarks, testing petrophysical relationships or measuring different geophysical tool sensitivities to variations in underground hydrodynamical, chemical, or thermal properties.
The range of applications of meter-scale experiments is very wide and concerns different topics such as detecting underground hazards, understanding tidal responses of groundwater reservoir, monitoring water infiltration or polluted zone remediation, evaluating soil water content depending on plant root uptake, as well as cold environment characterizations.
All experiments involving near-surface geophysical methods such as streaming potentials, micro-seismic, electrical resistivity measurements and ground-penetrating radar are welcome.
