Session Description:
Long-term trends in lake temperature and related processes can provide us with insight into the spatial heterogeneity of climate change impacts. Lakes and reservoirs are discrete points on the landscape, respond to regional climate, and are often described as “sentinels” of climate change. Recent work has shown that many lakes and reservoirs are warming worldwide, though the response is variable in space and time. Developing a stronger understanding of the relationship between regional climate change and individual lake response is an important step in understanding how inland waters respond to climate change. In addition, climate-induced changes in thermal structure are anticipated to result in changes in ecosystem function.
We welcome submissions addressing linkages between atmospheric and lake trends, as well as those focusing on the response of ecosystems to changes in the physical state of lakes.
