Session ID#: 13912

Session Description:
During the last decade the emergence of web-based maps and globes have changed they way scientists, educators or anyone can view the world we live on. There is now many geospatial tools that allow more than just armchair discovery. They provide an infrastructure for monitoring of the planet at high spatial and temporal resolution, by allowing users to harness the power of free, web-based maps and globes for geospatial analysis, visualization and storytelling.

We encourage submissions from across all Earth Science disciplines that leverage web-based maps, virtual globes and related geospatial tools to study our planet. The session will highlight successes of these tools, their role in enhancing science, and opportunities for the future. Collectively there is real opportunity to develop an ecosystem of geospatial tools that provide a living dashboard view of our planet, which could offer a means for comprehending and mitigating the many issues it faces.
