Session Description:
NASA’s Application Science mobilizes Earth Observations, mature science results, diverse subject matter experts and innovative partnerships to make substantial contributions toward disaster risk reduction. Sponsored projects use hazard and integrated earth science, data management, and technology infusion to enable decisions. This session will examine new mapping and modeling applications, visualization, predictive and tools that address the relentless challenge of natural and human induced disasters. Case studies will include response to earthquakes, floods, tropical storms, tsunamis, landslides, volcanic ash and oil spill events and cascading hazards. The intent is to ready such applications for stakeholders and actors that enable disaster preparedness, event response, recovery and resilience. Therefore the program will highlight effective steps to make Earth Observation more accessible, to accelerate the transition of research results to application by integrating research with event response and creating nontraditional partnerships to build resilience.
