Mapping and Monitoring Vegetation Structure from Space I Posters

Session Description:
The terrestrial ecosphere stores ~460 Gt of carbon in vegetation, yet the magnitudes and distributions of vegetation carbon stocks and fluxes are highly uncertain. Remote sensing provides observations of vegetation structure across wide areas and can be used to model and map forest carbon content, habitat, and successional status. Additionally, time series datasets from Landsat, or repeat pass active acquisitions, are used to monitor changes in structure. This session focuses on mapping and monitoring vegetation structure at regional to global scales, both through the application of existing spaceborne datasets (e.g. ICESAT’s GLAS, ALOS, Landsat change products) and pertaining to upcoming missions (e.g. GEDI, BIOMASS, NISAR, ICESAT-2). We invite abstracts related to all aspects involved in generating maps of vegetation structure and flux, including field protocols, statistical modeling from airborne and spaceborne datasets, and spatial statistics. We particularly encourage submission of abstracts related to fusion of multiple RS technologies.
