Session ID#: 14113
Session Description:
Recent observation and modeling efforts have established the powerful region impact on snow and ice cover from the deposition of light absorbing impurities such as mineral dust and carbonaceous particles. Light absorbing particles darken the snow surface, initiating snow albedo feedbacks that impact global climate and water cycles. This session will focus on methodology, for example laboratory and field-based experiments and new instrumentation, and processes, such as transport and deposition, atmospheric heating, snowmelt, glacier/ice sheet mass balance, as well as modeling of the past, present, and future impacts of mineral dust, carbonaceous particles, and other aerosols.
