Session ID#: 14960
Session Description:
The MAVEN (Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN) mission at Mars, now into its second year, has been fruitfully investigating the science of the Mars upper atmosphere/plasma system, its interactions with the solar wind and atmospheric escape. MAVEN is expanding on the earlier pathfinder observations made by the Viking Probes, the Phobos mission, Mars Global Surveyor, and in particular, the voluminous complete solar cycle coverage by the still operating Mars Express mission. This session will seek contributions of new research developments using MAVEN and other compemetary Mars measurement assets as a further step in filling gaps in our understanding of the upper envelop of the Mars environment, its loss to space, and its control by the Sun.
