Session Description:
Our ability to understand the rates and possible consequences of contemporary climate change, particularly ice sheet-ocean interactions, is hindered by the insufficient length of instrumental records. Thus, past climate change and its impact on ice sheets must be inferred from proxy records such as those found in sedimentary archives. A better understanding of the complex interplay between ice sheets and oceans is essential to determine how oceans influence ice sheet stability and how ice sheets may influence ocean circulation and relative sea level changes. This session aims to bring together researchers from all glaciated margins to unravel evidence for the growth and decay of the Late Cenozoic ice sheets through to the present. We particularly welcome contributions investigating geomorphological records on past ice sheet extent and ice dynamics, studies of coeval past oceanic circulation, multi-proxy studies, pre-MIS 5 records, and modelling of the processes operating on glaciated margins.
