Use of Earth Observations in Mitigating Major Environmental Challenges in South and Southeast Asia I

Session Description:
Changing climate and increased population pressures are increasing the complexity of resource allocation and other environmental decision making in the Himalayan region. This session focuses on basic and applied research efforts in the region that incorporate Earth observations and products to generate tools and products to support the environmental decision making by governmental institutions, non-governmental agencies, and the general public.  The major challenges facing the region are particularly acute in food security and agriculture, water resources management, disaster risk reduction, and rapidly changing land use and ecosystems. These challenges are exacerbated when viewed through the lens of climate change. Submissions are welcome from researchers focusing on addressing these societal challenges for the Hindu Kush-Himalaya region.
