Advancing Greenhouse Gas Emission Inventories in the Agriculture, Forestry, and Other Land Use Sector for Reporting to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change I

Session Description:
The recent global agreement on reducing greenhouse gas emissions that came out of the 21st Conference of the Parties in Paris, France will increase the level scrutiny around greenhouse gas inventories that countries submit on a regular basis to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Greenhouse gas inventory submissions will be used to track progress in implementing and achieving the nationally determined contributions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions under the Paris agreement. This session focuses on approaches that could be applied in estimating anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions and removals across the land use categories in the Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use sector. Innovative methods and data requirements will be featured with the goal of advancing national greenhouse gas inventory methodologies in compliance with guidance from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change reporting requirements.
