Assessing Impacts of Land Use and Land Cover Change in a Changing Climate using Modeling and Measurements II

Session Description:
This session aims to bring together modeling and observation communities to investigate the role of land use and land cover changes (LULCC) in the climate and earth system. The session will consider regional to global scale change in agricultural, managed, urbanized and natural environments. It will address biogeophysical, biogeochemical, ecosystem, water, and carbon cycling aspects of land cover change. We welcome studies on observed evidence of LULCC impacts using for instance remote-sensing of biophysical effects, on novel modeling techniques, (e.g. Earth System Modeling), and on approaches that explore how far such measurements are useful tools for model evaluation. We invite contributions moving beyond land cover change towards land management effects, as well as other topics relevant to climate model inter-comparison projects such as CMIP6/LUMIP, LUCID, or LUC4C. For future projections, a key focus lies on mitigation potentials, in particular in view of the recent COP21 climate agreement.
