Session ID#: 15722

Session Description:
Models of glacial isostatic adjustment (GIA) quantify the response of the solid Earth to cryospheric loading. GIA delivers one of the main signals for global and regional geodetic observations, e.g. gravity changes (GRACE, absolute gravity), surface displacement (GPS, VLBI) and sea level variations (tide gauge).  It also contributes to present-day sea-level predictions and sea-level reconstructions on geological time scales.

Advances in observational techniques, solid earth mechanics and earth system models open new directions in GIA research, e.g., application of InSAR techniques, consideration of stress dependent or transient Earth rheologies, as well as lateral viscosity contrasts, and development of ice-sheet/solid-Earth coupling strategies. We invite submissions that use geodetic observations and/or numerical modeling of solid Earth/cryosphere interactions, including constitutive theories of rock mechanics extrapolated to the mantle and crust. We also welcome cryosphere-geosphere interactions like coupled ice-sheet/sea-level modeling and the contribution of glacially-induced stress changes to earthquakes and magmatic events.
