Earth System Change from Space: From EOS to Suomi NPP I

Session Description:
The Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (Suomi NPP) satellite provides the measurement capability to extend many high-quality time series data records that were initiated by earlier NASA Earth Observing System’s (EOS) satellites. Through the development of continuity-specific algorithms that account for instrument differences, S-NPP observations will allow scientists to extend a continuous record of satellite data of sufficient quality to detect and quantify global environmental changes.

 

We are requesting abstracts that address EOS to S-NPP product continuity for physical, chemical, biological, or biogeochemical properties of the Earth system, including:

 

  • Progress on algorithm development for data product continuity and results;
  • Assessments of Earth System change in atmospheric, land, cryospheric, and ocean properties;
  • Fundamental questions, challenges and assessments in the creation of well-calibrated and stable multiyear and multi-satellite Level-1 time series;
  • Development of Level-3 spatial/temporal aggregations required for Earth System Change Model assessment.
