Coordinating Air Pollutant and Greenhouse Gas Mitigation Strategies: Co-benefits for Air Quality, Health, and Climate I

Session Description:
As countries around the world make efforts to improve local and regional air quality they will have opportunities to do so in ways which both increase (eg. end-of-pipe controls, production of synthetic natural gas) or decrease (eg. increase use of renewable energy, increase energy efficiency) the emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG).  Given the need to also dramatically and rapidly reduce the emissions of GHG to address climate change, a careful evaluation of the air quality and climate implications of various energy strategies is needed.   These analyses require rigorous scientific tools including the development of energy substitution and resulting emission scenarios, air pollution and climate modeling, observational data, epidemiological and cost analyses and full integrated assessments.  We invite abstracts that analyze potential co-benefits of coordinated air pollutant and GHG mitigation strategies around the world using a variety of analytical tools and approaches.
