Session Description:
The science of atmospheric rivers is rapidly expanding and is beginning to bear important dividends in terms of real-world applications. Improved understanding and forecasts of atmospheric rivers are being applied to better plan for, and manage, the risks and challenges of floods, droughts, landscape disturbances and fires, landslides, and disaster mitigations and responses. This session aims to draw together examples, perspectives and approaches to these real-world applications of atmospheric-rivers science. Studies describing actionable observations and indices, forecasting improvements and uses, emergency-response exercises and plans, resource management and planning efforts, and other applications to societal and environmental needs are encouraged.
