Session Description:
The surface radiative energy budget is a key determinant in the climate system. We invite papers on all aspects of the global and regional surface energy budgets based on surface observations, satellite-derived records, reanalysis data, and global and regional climate model simulations. Special emphasis is placed on all aspects of the field measurements of atmospheric radiation, as well as on the spatial and temporal variations of the different radiative and non-radiative (i.e. latent and sensible heat fluxes) components of the surface energy balance. Studies of the effects of cloud and aerosol forcing on surface energy, including solar dimming and brightening phenomenon and their causes are also welcome. As well, papers that use validated proxy data to spatially and temporally extend our knowledge on the variations in some of the surface energy components (such as records of sunshine duration, visual observations of clouds, pan evaporation, visibility or tree-rings), are also encouraged.
