Session Description:
The monsoon has a tremendous socio-economic impact over Asia through water resources, agriculture, food production and hydropower generation. Despite a century of forecasting efforts, accurate predictions of the monsoon variability from subseasonal to seasonal time scales remain elusive. This challenge is even more pressing as this variability is expected to change with global warming. This session invites papers on all aspects of intraseasonal to interannual variability of the Asian monsoon, and the impact of climate change on such variability. Papers discussing observed variability and impact of climate change, predictability of the monsoon at intraseasonal to interannual time scales, model intercomparison and projections of future changes in monsoon variability due to global warming are especially welcome. This session hopes to bring attention to outstanding challenges regarding regional changes over the monsoon domain and their prediction.
