Processes and Linkages in the Upper Troposphere and Lower Stratosphere: Observations and Models II
Submit an Abstract to this Session
Please know the abstract submission deadline has passed. There are no exceptions to this deadline and no new abstracts can be submitted.

Session ID#: 16349
Session Description:
The upper troposphere and lower stratosphere (UTLS) is an important region in the atmosphere with significant role in radiative forcing and climate. Despite the growing number of reliable observations and recent advances in the modeling of relevant processes (e.g., convection, cloud microphysical and radiative processes, reactive chemistry, tropical wave interactions), the mechanisms maintaining the composition and structure of the UTLS are still not well understood. This session will explore new developments regarding fundamental processes and linkages in the UTLS, as provided by observations, data assimilation and modeling. We encourage abstract submissions on a wide spectrum of UTLS topics including dynamical and chemical coupling with convection, transport pathways from the troposphere to the stratosphere, cirrus cloud impact and processes, evaluation of aircraft measurements, satellite retrievals and global models, halogen chemistry, and the role of UTLS water vapor in future climate.
