Session Description:
Due to rapid growth of economy and fossil fuel consumption, Asian countries have experienced severe air pollution, which has attracted great attention of public, scientists and policy makers. One essential research is to know contributions of different source sectors/regions to air pollutants and design control strategies with minimum costs.
Primary pollutants are directly emitted into the atmosphere, while secondary pollutants are formed in the atmosphere through chemical reactions of gas precursors. Thus, some areas may not be able to directly control emissions that make major contribution to their pollution, so as climate change and health risk. Decision makers need tools that can show quantitative relationships between emissions sources and ambient concentrations, such as source apportionment techniques. Various techniques have been developed and each has its advantages, uncertainties, applicability, and limitations. Thus, to integrate different methods will benefit the whole scientific community and address the urgent needs of air pollution control.
