Atmospheric Circulation and Hydrological Cycle under a Changing Climate: Monsoons, Storm Tracks, and the ITCZ III

Session Description:
Despite recent progress in understanding the atmospheric circulation and hydrologic cycle response to global warming, our confidence in regional climate projections from state-of-the-art climate models remains poor due to the lack of understanding of the zonally asymmetric aspects of the global circulation. Improved understanding of regional climate change projections requires a combination of theory, novel diagnostic frameworks, hierarchical modeling, and comparison with observations, especially on the coupling between atmospheric circulations and moisture at a wide range of spatial and temporal scales.

We welcome contributions covering theoretical, idealized and comprehensive modeling, as well as diagnostic frameworks and metrics for understanding the atmospheric circulation and its response to climate change.  Contributions including, but not limited to, monsoons, storm tracks, the ITCZ, stationary waves, blocking, and atmospheric rivers are highly encouraged.
