Session Description:
Emissions quantification based on atmospheric observations is critical for understanding the atmosphere, quantifying emission impacts (e.g., IPCC, CMIP, CCMI), and verifying agreements on pollution (e.g., COP21). This session focuses on observations-based approaches to quantify and assess emissions of ozone and aerosol precursors and climate forcing agents from anthropogenic, biogenic, wildfire, and dust sources at different spatial and temporal scales. The following topics are particularly encouraged: using top-down observational constraints to evaluate and improve bottom-up inventories; understanding natural and anthropogenic drivers of temporal variations in emissions; extending emissions estimates to finer temporal and spatial scales; and quantifying uncertainties in emissions inventories.
