Session Description:
Earth and space sciences can benefit from adopting and sharing open source software and from open data as these open science practices offer opportunities to improve science infrastructure. In addition to this, open source software enhances capabilities of researchers, science teams, new users and allows them to build more capable, reliable, and long-lasting software. Reusing open source software and data can be synergistically and mutually beneficial as well as challenging.

This session focuses on meeting the challenges of these open science efforts so that we can inform the community how best to obtain the benefits. Presentations describe successes, challenges, and lessons learned from creating adopting, using, and sharing open source software and open data for Earth and space science. In particular we invite use of software from the open source technology community (Apache, Eclipse, OSGeo, OGC, etc.), and the application of these technologies to Earth and space sciences use cases.
