Session Description:
Global stable carbon isotope excursions (CIEs) are recorded in both marine and terrestrial sedimentary deposits. These CIEs are often associated with major biogeochemical events and global climate change. Interpreting these CIEs requires an integrative inter-disciplinary approach incorporating a variety of geochemical, sedimentological, and paleontological data. Determination of the causes and effects of these carbon cycle perturbations is essential to better understanding current and future perturbations in the carbon cycle. This session aims to bring together researchers that use bulk and compound specific carbon isotopes in marine and/or terrestrial environments to quantify changes across these events. We encourage contributions investigating the cause(s) of the CIEs, terrestrial-marine comparisons, carbon cycle modeling, carbon sources and processes, and environmental change.
