Session Description:
There are an increasing number of well-dated, high-resolution paleoclimate records from the tropics that document changes in precipitation and/or water balance over a range of timescales. Further new and more reliable proxies to document changes are being developed and improved. Combining records from multiple geological archives such as speleothems, lakes, glaciers, trees, and marine environments, which each have different temporal resolutions and seasonal sensitivities, will yield new information about climate variability and the underlying mechanism(s) driving the observed changes. We invite authors to present findings from tropical paleoclimate archives using proxies sensitive to changes in hydroclimate and to discuss the issues related to dating, temporal resolution, seasonality, and calibration, among others. We are particularly interested in how different paleoclimate archives can be combined to improve our understanding of the pattern of tropical climate change over the late Quaternary.
