Session Description:
Landscapes are shaped by physical, chemical, and ecological processes at multiple scales with climate, biology, tectonics, and sea level as their chief boundary conditions. The sedimentary record archives the past morphology and kinematics of Earth’s surface, but our understanding of the quantitative links between surface processes and subsurface architecture remains limited. The focus of this session will be on building connections – between surface and subsurface data; field and laboratory studies; and physical, ecological, and geochemical processes – to further our understanding of the record left by depositional landscapes. We encourage submissions that combine process analysis, measurement, and predication with methods related to emerging ideas – including but not limited to reduced complexity modeling, network analysis, pattern formation, and geostatistics. This session will span a range of spatiotemporal scales in depositional environments on Earth or other planetary bodies, and include field, remote sensing, and experimental and/or numerical techniques.
