Session Description:
Terrestrial environments respond to global climate in complex and unique (often rapid) manners compared to marine environments. Because of this, estimating the rate and magnitude of the response of the terrestrial realm to climate variability, and detecting climate signals in terrestrial environments is inherently challenging. This challenge is further compounded by the lack of high-resolution terrestrial paleoclimate records, especially those overlapping human evolutionary history. Lacustrine materials present largely untapped resources for studying regional terrestrial climate variability and the resultant environmental responses.

The primary goal of this session is to bring together new research focusing on developing high-resolution records of terrestrial climate and environmental change from lacustrine environments, with a special focus on new field sites, novel materials, innovative methods, and the development/refinement of proxies. Particularly, we welcome comparisons of lake-based proxy observations with instrumental data and/or regional climate models, unique field locations, interdisciplinary questions and new lacustrine materials.
