Session Description:
Terrestrial environments possess powerful feedback mechanisms that help regulate global climate through their impacts on the carbon cycle, surface albedo, and the hydrological cycle. This session aims to bring together diverse proxy data and model studies that can provide insights into the terrestrial nexus of carbon, water, and climate during greenhouse periods such as the Cretaceous and Paleogene. Topics include, but are not limited to, the hydrological, past terrestrial temperature states and gradients, response of vegetation, soils, and biogeochemical element cycles to warming and hydrologic change, and insights into land-ocean interactions during greenhouse periods. We welcome a range of contributions, from those focusing on terrestrial systems during geological sharp perturbation of the climate system, such as the PETM and Cretaceous OAEs, as well as during less rapidly paced climate variability on a warm planet.
