Session Description:
Many components of the earth’s surface have recently been altered due to a changing climate. Floods, wildfires and landslides are increasing in magnitude and frequency, sediment fluxes to the ocean are increasing, glaciers are speeding up as they thin and retreat. As surface warming continues, we expect the magnitude and rate of change of these surface processes, and any hazards associated with these changes, to accelerate. This will have profound implications for geomorphic systems and risk management. This “Frontiers in EPSP” session invites contributions from across all geomorphic disciplines that address observed or predicted changes in earth surface processes due to climate change, and/or risks associated with these processes. We welcome submissions that incorporate empirical, experimental, theoretical, and/or modeling approaches. Contributions considering hazards and risks related to climate-induced changes in surface processes in the past, present or future, are particularly encouraged.
